MTS ALLSTREAM LUMINARIES — NOMINEE INFORMATION

Abe Ghasemi demonstrated creativity and innovation in completing the dismantling of Mount Jarvis microwave site in B.C. He stepped in after the current dismantling contractor could not finish the project as required. Abe coordinated the engineering and project planning and saved MTS Allstream $1.2 million dollars in contractor fees and costs. This project was completed to the requirements and satisfaction of the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, with which the Company had a leasing agreement.

This project started in 2006 by another Engineer/PM and was part of ESD Microwave system decommissioning. The scope of the project was to dismantle the microwave site building, communication tower and the tram with tram towers at Jarvis Mountain, B.C. A contractor blasted the tram towers but was only able to remove the building. At this point it was up to Abe to “clean up” the mountain and remove the remaining toppled towers. Quotes from other contractors were costly as this was a very complex mission. Abe used his initiative and creative thinking and came up with a solution to remove the debris by helicopter. Abe faced many challenging factors, such as the location and logistics; harsh environment and weather conditions; legal, government and environmental regulations; and personal safety.

Abe flew numerous times with the helicopters over the mountain and inspected the toppled towers - exposing him to risks which were well beyond his normal work duties. He flew in the helicopters, landed next to the toppled communication tower on the mountain, and personally checked the feasibility of lifting the tower by helicopter.

Through his tenacity and innovative thinking, Abe found the most economical and sound engineering solution for this situation. This project was completed successfully at the end of 2007, as Mount Jarvis was returned to its pristine and natural condition.
