Barb was employed in various positions in Directory Department, Yellow Pages, MTS Advanced and MTS Media. Her history as a volunteer with MTS began as a Building Coordinator for the Employee Charity Trust from 1981 to 1985, and as an ECT committee member until 2005.

Barb also held numerous positions with the MTS Pioneers / MTS Volunteers, ranging from fundraising Chair, Vice President, and President to her current capacity as MTS Volunteer Liaison.

She created the “MTS Volunteer Awards for Business” with MTS - a series of awards presented at the annual Volunteer Manitoba gala to companies that embody the same ideals as the MTS Volunteers.

Her other notable achievements include the following:

  • Presidents Volunteer Award (1996)
  • Elected Nationally/Internationally to the Telephone Pioneer speakers’ bureau and as a Telephone Pioneers facilitator (1999 to 2001)
  • Elected/Nominated to the Computers for Schools Board of Directors, representing MTS and the MTS Volunteers (2001 – 2006)
  • Elected/Nominated as an International Pioneer awards judge (2001 – 2006)

Barb also volunteers another 450 hours every year to organizations not related to the MTS Volunteers. She is the President of the Transcona Playground Renewal Association and is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Hi Neighbor Festival Committee.

In her own words, "I became an active volunteer with MTS for two reasons: to give back to my community and to help my company be a leader within our communities . . . I took pride in working for and representing MTS, their employees and retirees in the community - something I still feel honoured to do."

Barb Culbertson left MTS Allstream in 2006.
