Steve Grant has been a key part of the overall design and maintenance of the Company’s complete desktop management environment. Over the years, Steve has provided outstanding leadership in designing technical solutions to manage the workstation environment. He was a key component of the CDE Project to integrate the workstation management environments for MTS and Allstream. He has been creative and innovative in developing, designing, implementing and maintaining a key workstation management infrastructure which has allowed for significant savings as well as stability in our desktop computing environment.

Ten years ago, Steve had the foresight for the need of a standardized and stable desktop management environment. Without the mandate or direction, he began to work on a plan to reach this goal. The environment at the time utilized several companies and each company had several approaches to desktop management. Steve managed to streamline the process to a single unified approach. After many months of research, development and testing, he introduced new technologies such as Novell Directory Services, E-Directory and ZENworks. Steve trained and mentored desktop support staff in using these technologies.

When Allstream joined MTS, Steve was instrumental in leading the effort to get to a common method for desktop management. This involved the transition for MTS from Novell ZENworks to Microsoft Active Directory and SMS. He developed a reputation in IT Management as the go-to person for all requests related to desktop management. The desktop management environment in place today within MTS Allstream is largely due to Steve’s efforts.

• As part of the initial CODE project, Steve developed the plans for a regular 4 year refresh of desktop technology.
• He developed the whole desktop imaging process resulting in a standardized, uniformed approach to images.
• He developed and introduced Novell Directory Services to meet the file & print needs of MTS and Novell ZENworks for desktop management, including application packaging and distribution in a standardized, uniformed approach.
• He developed the workstation security model for MTS which is still in use today.
• Steve visualized and created the Workstation Solutions Team within CIS (later ITSM) to build a team with specialized skills to meet the needs of the business.
• He directed the migration from Novell E-Directory and ZENworks to Microsoft Active Directory and SMS.
• He managed the integration of the MTS and Allstream desktop management practices into the MTS Allstream desktop management practices.

Steve has provided integrity, leadership, mentoring, innovation, creativity, and an outstanding commitment to MTS Allstream. He is committed to ensuring the Company is able to provide real value to the customers by providing the every day desktop tools for employees. He is truly an unsung hero within the Company.
